Telemedicine is using technology to provide clinical patient care at a distance and in an efficient manner. Providers of all types, from nurses to physicians to therapists, can use technology to connect to patients from the comfort of their own home. Whether using a telephone, a computer or an iPad, good patient care can be delivered. When Boston had record snowstorms this past winter, ALS patients were able to keep their follow-up appointments through telemedicine.
Here at Synovation, the department of telemedicine is also working on projects that can help to eliminate distance and time barriers within the healthcare system and improve access to care. The department of telemedicine is completing a remote prescription refill program that would allow select patients with stable medical conditions to complete their encounters over the phone after one-on-one discussions with a physician assistant. Eventually the departments projects will expand to include face-to-face video conferencing with patients for refills and other indications.
